The timing could not be better for the arrival of the Volvo S60 Black Edition.
The color black represents elegance and class. It exudes restraint, understatement and style. Black is cool. And timeless. The Volvo S60 Black Edition is all these things, and sporty to boot.
Volvo Car USA is adding the special Black Edition to its award-winning S60 sedan. With exclusive high gloss black accents and badging, the new Black Edition adds a touch elegance and class to the sporty design of the Volvo S60. The Black Edition arrives in a handful of dealerships this spring. Sporty and elegance to its core, the S60 Black Edition will be available in limited quantities. Only 450 vehicles will be produced for 2022.
The Black Edition is available with the plug-in hybrid S60 Recharge. It also comes with the mild hybrid S60 Momentum and R-Design trims. The Black Edition’s standard feature includes exclusive high gloss black 19-inch wheels and standard metallic paint, further bolstering the already generous standard features of the S60.
High gloss black covers the grille, Volvo badge, and grille slash. High gloss black wheels and window trim differentiate the Black Edition from any other S60. All badging—including the Volvo word mark, model name, and motor designations—is in high gloss black. Darkened tailpipes accentuate the cars’ athletic appeal.
The Black Edition comes in two-shades of black. The Onyx Black Metallic gives the S60 as stealthier look, with the high gloss black accents blending in. These accents stand out with the other available color, Crystal White Metallic, which gives the Black Edition a bolder look. The Black Edition starts at an MSRP of $40,000.
The Black Edition was designed at the Volvo US design studio in California by the Camarillo-based team led by head US designer Eric Beak. The Black Edition was manufactured in the US at the Volvo Cars Ridgeville, SC plant.
The development timeline for Black Edition was accelerated when Volvo executives visited California and saw the car in person in November 2021. It was love at first sight. The S60 Black Edition was approved for production on the spot. The normal design approval process fell to the wayside as the leadership wanted to get the Black Edition to the market and into the hands of customers ASAP.
